What you need to know

This section is a lovely mix of simple techniques and satisfying shaping. You’ll revisit reverse stocking stitch for the sugar cubes to give them that soft, cushioned look, while the tray combines smooth stocking stitch with structured edging created through picked-up stitches and gradual increases. The milk bottle is worked neatly in the round using double-pointed needles, with gentle shaping formed by k2tog decreases and kfb increases, giving it that classic bottle silhouette.

Yarn: Stylecraft Special DK, shades (A) 1001 White, (B) 1420 Camel, (C) 1241 Fondant, (D) 1114 Sunshine, (E) 1821 Grass Green, (F) 1005 Cream, (G) 1246 Lipstick, (H) 1064 Mocha, (J) 1099 Grey, (K) 1082 Bluebell, one 100g ball of each, black DK, small amount (optional)
Needles: 3mm, straight, set of four dpns and circular, 3.25mm, straight
Toy stuffing
Craft foam
Domed plastic cup lids (for cups)
Plastic lids (for saucers, sugar bowl)
Plastic bottle (for milk bottle)
Pipe cleaners
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle

How to: decrease knit stitches (k2tog)

To reduce the number of stitches on a knit row, pulling the shaping in to the right, you'll often see 'k2tog' towards the end of pattern row. This means 'knit 2 stitches together' as one.
